Fluoride removal from water by Ca-Al-CO3 layered double hydroxides and simultaneous acidification

چکیده
Millions of people worldwide are exposed to excessive concentrations fluoride (F−) from groundwater sources. Ca-Al-CO3 layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have shown promising defluoridation efficiency; however, by LDHs is highly pH sensitive. This study showed that simultaneous acidification conventional acids, such as HCl and CO2 substantially increased the performance for F- removal at environmentally relevant (e.g., 10 mg/L) below WHO guideline value (1.5 mg/L), while, in comparison other acids (HNO3, H2SO4, H3PO4), use does not lead introduction potentially harmful or undesired anions. The addition suspensions did changes structure. Leaching experiments, supported PHREEQC modelling characterization (SEM-EDX, XRD FTIR), strongly suggest main mechanism was F− adsorption complexation onto/into various rehydrated mixed metal oxides which re-precipitated upon partial dissolution when acidifying.

Synthesis ratios of Mg-Al and Zn-Al layered double hydroxides efficiency and selectivity in nitrate removal from solution
Four diverse chlorides layered double hydroxides with diverse ratios, i.e. Mg-Al (3:1), Mg-Al (4:1), Zn-Al (4:1), and Zn-Al (3:1) LDHs, were prepared to evaluate their efficiency and selectivity towards nitrate removal from aquatic solutions. A batch experiment was done at the initial nitrate concentration of 5-1000 mg/L, pH 5 to 12, and contact time of 5-180 min. Isotherms of nitrate adsorptio...

Mg-Al-CO3 Layered double hydroxide (LDH) was prepared by co-precipitation method at constant pH, and subsequently used to remove Evans Blue (EB) and Yellow thiazole (YT) dyes from aqueous solutions. The obtained material was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis and BET. The kinetic and equilibrium aspects of sorption ...
متن کاملPreparation and characterization of new Ca–Al–polycarboxylate layered double hydroxides
The synthesis and characterization of composite materials based on calcium–aluminum layered double hydroxides (Ca–Al-LDHs), intercalated with organic polycarboxylate (PC) polymers, is described. The PC polymers, which exhibit a “comb-like” architecture, contain ethylene oxide side chains of different lengths. They are intercalated between the cationic Ca–Al–OH-layers when tricalcium aluminate i...

Calcined and organo-modified Zn-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were studied as adsorbents and photocatalysts for removal of cationic dye, as namely methylene blue (MB). Zn-Al LDHs with a cationic ratio of 2:4 were obtained by the coprecipitation method. As-synthesized samples were calcined at different temperatures and the phase transformations were investigated by XRD, TG/DTG, and UV-vis-...
متن کاملCalcined Chitosan-Supported Layered Double Hydroxides: An Efficient and Recyclable Adsorbent for the Removal of Fluoride from an Aqueous Solution
In this work, calcined chitosan-supported layered double hydroxides (CSLDO) were synthesized through a co-precipitation method that restrained the particles' aggregation of LDHs and exhibited huge specific surface areas, which can enhance the fluoride adsorption capacity. CSLDOs were characterized by physical and chemical methods and used for fluoride adsorption in an aqueous solution. The resu...
